AUTUMN RHYTHM

Jackson Pollock, 1950
Metropolitan Museum of Art

unbidden the horse
bolts from its stable
freed at last from the
apocalyptic
quartet from oater
cliché red blazer
aristo in hot
pursuit of dream-fox
unbidden the horse
appears riderless
unslow without the
clomp of heavy hooves
comes as autumn wind
comes swirling umber
dirt leaves head aflame
like a wild white sun
unbidden unnamed
and untamable
