Steve Lautermilch's black and white photograph shows a girl sitting at the bottom of a pool. Her eyes are open, and streaks of light fall across her and over the scene. She holds her left arm up and her right arm straight out in front of her. There is a peaceful but focused expression on her face.

A poet and photographer, for many years Steve Lautermilch has been exploring the ancient sites and landscapes of the far western deserts. Rim (2010) received the Sow's Ear Chapbook Prize; recent poems received the Daniel Varoujan Award from the New England Poetry Club and the Muriel Craft Bailey Award from The Comstock Review. Figures for a Family Portrait (2018) is forthcoming as the winner of the Bright Hill Press Book Award.
